The Integrity Project
Reclaiming My Truth
I was honorably discharged from active duty in the United States Marine Corps in 1995. During my time in service, I attended multiple advanced schools, served in combat operations (Somalia), and participated in an agency-led mission out of Vandenberg AFB in 1993.
Due to a family emergency, I received an early release, enrolling in college three months before my End of Active Service (EAS). My plan at that time was to complete my education and then pursue a career in federal service or crossdeck to Army SF as an officer.
However, my DD214 was issued nearly blank, omitting schools, operations, and other critical details.
For the past 30 years, I have attempted, without success, to obtain and correct my complete service and medical records. In 2023, after engaging a third-party veterans’ advocate and paying thousands of dollars out-of-pocket, HQMC issued a DD215 that confirmed my Somalia service. However, the remainder of my record is still missing.
Complicating matters, in 1993 I signed an NDA related to the Vandenberg mission. While that agreement may not be the reason for my incomplete records, my sense of duty to maintain secrecy certainly discouraged me from pressing the issue further at the time.
The absence of accurate records has prevented timely access to post-combat care and the ability to request appropriate help.
My goals are straightforward:
Obtain my complete Service Record Book (SRB) and medical records.
Correct my SRB by including missing information such as schools, operations, and assignments.
Correct my DD214/215 so that it accurately reflects my full service history.
At this point, I simply want my records for posterity for my children, for my family’s rich military history, and for my own integrity with the world.
This page provides a timeline of my service and efforts to resolve this matter, along with supporting documentation (certificates, correspondence, and official corrections).
I respectfully request Congressional assistance in resolving this matter so that my records — and my truth/reality — finally align.
